Tikkun Holistic Spa in Santa Monica, CA is now offering a Korean spa treatment called “chai-yok,” a gentle, soothing steam bath specifically for the vagina. The process is simple enough, the client squats over a special wooden stool which has a hole that a steamy mixture of brewed herbs rises up into her vagina for a unique cleansing process.
Owner of Tikkun, Niki Han Schwarz, told AOL News this “V-Steam” cleanse process has been offered for several months but the orgins of “chai-yok” is traced back to Korea where it has been used for over 600 years. “This is new to us in the west, traditional Korean spas have always offered chai-yok, and Korean women get it done regularly,” explained Schwarz.
What is the purpose of this you ask, well according to Schwarz the reasons are endless. The steam bath is a mix mainly of mugwort and wormwood tea both of which are said to have serious healing properties in Eastern medicine. All herbs used in the bath are antifungal and antibacterial which help rid your body of toxins, pesticides, fight infections and even clear up hemorrhoids. Some have even said that it helps aid in fertility even though that can not be proven many who suffered from infertility have said that after doing this they have became pregnant.
Men don’t worry are not left out they offer the “A-Steam.” “It’s good for mens’ butts, one man got a steam before he was due for a hemorrhoid surgery and said it helped clear him up,” says Schwarz.
If you are an existing client at the spa the owner is offering complimentary steams to promote this service but she has said that this January she will host an even bigger promotion for this.
The steams will run you $50 or $180 for a set of 6. They suggest that you sit above the steam for 20-30 minutes but you can stay for longer.
